Hi all, I’m Bailey! I’m a microfluidicist and a graduate student at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. After a longstanding interest in science communication, I started @micro.pipette in 2019 to document my journey in STEM and graduate school. I’m hoping to use this space for longer-form communications and thoughts!
Some more about me:
My research focuses on the development of microfluidic devices for ultra-low concentration detection of proteins, DNA and other biological targets. The goal of this work is to develop diagnostic capabilities for tests that can inform a patient of an illness in earlier stages, before they are necessarily symptomatic. In this work, I get the opportunity to cross disciplines from analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and engineering.
I grew up on a rural lake in Michigan and love being near the water and Great Lakes. A lot of the policy issues I am most concerned about as a scientist relate to freshwater preservation and clean access.
My great grandparents immigrated to Detroit from Romania and instilled a love for documenting in my family. My family on their side has been writing, photographing, and making art since and they inspire me in my creative endeavors!

I look forward to using this space more and growing in it!
